Today, Jay and I got to see our lil guys for the first time in 4D!!
This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen!!
Baby A was so calm and peaceful! He loved having his picture taken :)
Baby B, on the other hand, is a wiggleworm!! He was moving all over the place. We didn't get a great picture of him, he kept hiding behind his placenta. There are some really funny pictures of him that look like he is wearing the placenta as a hat! (I didn't put it on here, honestly, because the picture looks very scary!! haha)
They both weigh 14 oz!! If you read yesterday, the avg is 10 oz... so they are growing to be such strong lil guys!!!
Everything looks great as far was we could tell today. See the ob on Monday... More to come then!
I've been trying hard each week to keep the blog updated, but last week that didn't happen!! I had a friendly reminder on FB this morning, from my sweet sis, that I was slacking...So, Ally, here you go!
Last week was a very busy week.. It started off with a long flight across country to see my family! It was great to see everyone, but changing time zones, losing another hour because of daylight savings time, I was worn out! Flying while pregnant with twins was a much bigger deal than I imagined. It's, again, the whole getting comfortable thing.. it just doesn't happen.
After being home for just a day, Jay had surgery. He is doing well, recovery is just going slower than he had hoped. His parents were able to come down for his surgery and stay for a few days. The night of Jay's surgery, I stayed at the hospital and his parents went to our house and worked on the babies' room. They were able to make great progress and it's almost ready to paint!! ...This is why I missed the 19 week blog!! Hopefully, now we will be back on track!
How Far Along: 20 weeks. HALF WAY THERE!! Size of baby: About the size of a cantaloupe. Avg length: 6.5 inches, Avg weight: 10.6 oz. Fun 20 week baby fact: Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. (From thebump.com) Maternity Clothes: Loving stretchy pants and all the cute maternity tops! Gender: TWO BOYS Movement: Baby B is very active and wiggles around most of the time. Baby A must be the laid back baby, he's pretty still most of the time. Sleep: Sleeping a little better, but with times changes, surgery and overnight stays in the hospital, I think that exhaustion is taking over! Symptoms: Swelling of legs and feet.. so not fun!! Best Moment this week: Knowing that we are half way there!! I can't wait to meet these lil guys!!
Tomorrow is another ultrasound! We have been getting ultrasounds every four weeks, but starting tomorrow, we will get one every two weeks! I look forward to the ultrasounds.. I just love seeing the lil guys move around and getting to make sure that they are ok. I hear moms of singletons say that they only had 1 or 2 ultrasounds the entire pregnancy... I'm sure that is the complete norm, but since this is my first pregnancy and it is multiples, I just can't imagine that. The nurse in me asks tons of questions and wants the ultrasound tech to check every body part possible to make sure that there is nothing abnormal! She is always great in reassuring me that things look wonderful. I feel completely blessed to be able to "check-in" so frequently on these lil miracles to see how they are doing!!
How Far Along: 18 weeks Size of baby: About the size of a sweet potato. Avg length: 5.6 in, Avg weight: 6.7 oz (at last weeks appt they were already 7 oz.... We can assume that they are probably a little larger than a sweet potato.. :) Maternity Clothes: Went shopping this week for maternity clothes!! For the record.. I'm still wearing my regular pants!! Whoo hoo!! Its difficult to decide how to buy maternity clothes.. my belly seems to grow so quickly the last couple of weeks. If I get something that fits, I'll be out of it in just a few weeks... If I buy something that's too big, I have to wait to wear it... blah... So.. We bought a little of both! Movement: Still no kicking. I can feel, and sometimes see, where they are thru my skin.. If I put my hand on them, they move..that's pretty awesome!! Sleep: SLEEP??? This past week has been rough! Getting in a comfortable position seems nearly impossible! Poor Jay.. I'm not sure he sleeps thru all the tossing and turning either. What I miss: Sleep. My ankles. Being able to walk and not look like a waddling duck. Symptoms: Swelling! My legs and ankles started swelling last Friday and it doesn't seem that is going to change until after the babies get here :( It seems so early that I would start swelling, since most women do not experience this until the end of their pregnancy and I'm only about half way there. The sweet nurse at my doctor's office reassured me that this is really common in multiples. She explained that my uterus is already the size of a woman who is carrying a singleton towards the end of her pregnancy... I have recognized this, but did she really have to point out, aloud, that my belly is "that" big!!?? Ha. I just keep reminding myself that not only are there "2 babies in dare"-Cole, but that there is also an individual home for each of them... 2 amniotic sacs, 2 placentas plus the 2 babies!! This makes me feel better. At least temporarily :) Evidently the size of the uterus adds to the congestion of blood flow to my legs, causing the swelling. Not much I can do to change this, but for comfort I can elevate my legs, ice my ankles and try not to sit or stand for long periods of time. Baby Room Update: Getting closer to having construction completed on the baby room! The door and trim is up! Waiting for the drywall in the closet to be completed and then we can paint and put down floors!! Whoo Hoo!! I can hardly wait!! Fun Things: The boys get to "meet" their aunt Ashley and Canter Grandparents this weekend! I haven't seen them since Christmas, and the babies were sooo tiny then (each the size of a piece of rice) You couldn't really tell I was pregnant... Now the babies can hear them talk and you can definitely tell I'm pregnant!! I can't wait!! Aunt Allison will see them this weekend too.. but she has already met them!! In fact, her exact words were, "Hi Guys, this is Allison... YOUR FAVORITE AUNT".. shhhh.. don't tell Ashley! :)
Size of baby: About the size of an Onion.. maybe a little bigger. My chart says they are about 5.1 inches long and 5.9 oz. On the ultrasound yesterday Baby A was 6 oz and Baby B was 7 oz. So they are even a little bigger than the expected size!! This is wonderful for twins!
Total Weight Gained: Well on my last post I told you all that at my visit 4 weeks ago I had lost 9 lbs... I gained back the 9 lbs, but not one pund more!
Gender: TWO LITTLE BOYS
Movement: I still haven't felt a "kick" yet.
Sleep: I'm really uncomfortable lying down, my back hurts so much! So, I still toss and turn all night.
Cravings: Yep, you guessed it... still Mexican food!!
Symptoms: Still pretty tired...I'm not so much as "sleepy" as I am just feeling really worn out.
Best Moment this week: I love seeing the babies during the ultrasounds. It' still amazing to me that there are "Two babies in 'dare (there)" Quote from my 2-year old lil buddy, Cole.
Watching them move and kick each other is sooo funny and breathtaking!!
We were able to do an anatomy check during the ultrasound. Results were:
A healthy heart for each- check
2 kidneys for each -check
Lips & Noses -check
10 fingers & 10 toes for each -check
Penis for each-check... WAIT.... WHAT?????
I'm still questioning the appendage between their legs.... Not because there is anything abnormal, I just thought that little girls weren't supposed to have those!! For those of you who don't know me.. ALL I could see was PINK, prior to the ultrasound yesterday... A Pink Tu-tu and big fluffy bows.. dance classes and ruffles. That's all I know.. I had sisters. No brothers. I can do girls... I was even completely satisfied with thinking one boy and one girl. BUT TWO BOYS?? What am I going to do with TWO BOYS?
I do have to admit that I had a few tears when she told me they were both boys. NOT because I don't want little boys, I was just sure that there was a girl in there!! I know this probably comes off as sounding ungrateful especially after everything we have been through to get this far and then to cry when it wasn't what I thought I wanted... but that's just it... it's not about what I want... It's about what GOD wants.
I keep asking, "what am I going to do with boys?" It's not what am I going to do with these boys, it's what HE is going to do with these boys. They are HIS and I am getting the most precious gift... BEING THEIR MOM!!
I'm sure one day that my boys will read this and I want them to know this...
Your daddy and I love you more than you will ever know! I hope that there is never a time in your life that you ever question how much we love you and how much we wanted you-BOTH of you!! We wanted you for so long!! As hard as it was to get you, we would both do it a thousand times over. We love you and can't wait to meet you!!
For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD. 1 Samuel 1:27-28
